"High-flying" and "exuberant" are just two ways to describe the Sacramento Jazz Fest. and Jubilee’s Swing Dance Contest. Watch as some of Northern California’s best swing dancers take to the floor and compete in a spectacular show of wild lifts, drops, spins and aerials. The 2010 contest will be held on Sunday, a different day than in past years. It all takes place inside the beautiful — air-conditioned!— Hyatt Ballroom, with the Prelims starting at 11:30am on Sunday morning (to recorded music). Then at 4pm, Dr. Bach & the Jazz Practitioners take to the stage to provide live music for the Swing Dance Contest Finals.
DANCERS: The grand prize is $1,000! Contestants should arrive at the Hyatt Ballroom by 11:00am on Sunday. Register with Scott Kaufman of Midtown Stomp; he'll be at the front of the room, on the left side. The Contest Finals will be judged by our wildly-enthusiastic crowd. No registration fee, but a badge is required for this venue.
The contest always generates an energy buzz for the rest of the night, so we've lined up three great bands to keep you dancing till you drop—about 5 lb.! But first, Midtown Stomp will lead a dance lesson at 5:30pm to recorded music.
The evening lineup of bands:
7:00 pm - RSJO (Royal Society Jazz Orchestra) from San Francisco
8:30 pm - Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums from San Francisco
10:00pm - Loose Marbles from New Orleans
In 2010 we presented these bands and more!
